About Tonehole
What Tonehole is, how the data is gathered and checked, and the history of the thiagoancelmo.com domain.
What this is
Tonehole is an independent, ad-free reference for musicians — especially wind players. It combines carefully checked, hand-built data (fingerings, ranges, tunings, scales) with facts gathered from fifteen open data sources, and turns it all into fast static pages that work on any device.
How the data is made
- Fingerings are encoded key-by-key and drawn as diagrams by our own generator. They follow standard modern practice and were cross-checked against The Woodwind Fingering Guide and common method books.
- Scales and notation are generated from music-theory code — correct spelling, key signatures and accidentals — and engraved to SVG at build time.
- Instrument facts, composers, players and repertoire come from Wikidata, Wikipedia, MusicBrainz and Open Opus; scores from IMSLP and the Mutopia Project; museum objects from open-access collections. See sources & licences.
Licence
Our original text, fingering diagrams, notation and downloadable MIDI/MusicXML files are licensed under CC BY 4.0. Third-party material keeps its own licence, which is shown next to it.
About this domain
From 2016 to 2023 the domain thiagoancelmo.com hosted the personal website of a Brazilian clarinettist of that name. This site is not affiliated with him and does not speak for him. If you were looking for the clarinettist, please search for his current professional pages. Old links (/bio, /teaching, /music, /performances, /gallery) now redirect to related sections here.
