Chromatic Tuner
Tune any instrument with your microphone. Shows note, cents and frequency; adjustable A4 and transposition.
Allow microphone access when asked. Audio is analysed on your device and never uploaded.
How to use the online tuner
- Press Start tuner and allow microphone access.
- Play a long, steady note at a comfortable volume.
- The needle shows how many cents sharp (right) or flat (left) you are. Green means within ±5 cents.
- Choose your instrument's transposition to see written note names (for example, B♭ clarinet shows C when the concert pitch is B♭).
What should I tune to?
Most of the world tunes to A4 = 440 Hz; many European orchestras use 442–443 Hz and baroque ensembles often 415 Hz. Warm up for a few minutes before tuning — wind instruments go sharp as they warm. Clarinettists adjust mainly with the barrel; flautists with the head joint; saxophonists by moving the mouthpiece. See how to tune a clarinet and intonation for wind players.
How it works
The tuner uses an autocorrelation pitch detector on short windows of microphone audio, then converts frequency to the nearest equal-tempered note:
n = 12 × log2(f / A4) + 69. It works for any sustained pitched sound between roughly 40 Hz and 2 kHz.
